Professionally Restored Original Grease Bearing Garrard 301

in a beautiful hammertone finish.

This 301 has been totally and professionally renovated to the very highest standards. Many companies are offering ''restored'' Garrards and at Peak HiFi we have seen at first hand units that have been ruined through amateurish rebuilds that would cost hundreds of pounds to correct. Peak HiFi utilise The Classic Turntable Co. to renovate our equipment, the company is owned by a very accomplished qualified engineer, so they know their stuff.

The restoration process begins with a complete strip down of the 301, and I mean completely...every single nut, bolt, washer, spring and grommet are removed.

The pictures above show the high quality finish applied by the professional paint shop. They mix the hammertone to give a stunning finish and to prevent it deteriorating its been coated with a special gloss lacquer which enhances the beautiful hammer effect.  The patter mat is brand new as are the fascia plates, rivets and control knobs.

All the springs and grommets are totally replaced with brand new components to the original specification.

The bearing is a crucial part of the Garrard's performance, and this unit has had new bushes fitted to restore the fine tolerances only found on new units.  Most ''restoration companies'' will not replace worn bearings, it is a difficult process and beyond the ability of many ''restoration companies''. 

The process is an expensive and technically demanding one requiring delicacy and specialist machinery to press out the old bushes without damaging the alloy bearing housing. The bushes are replaced with new original specification bushes from the correct material and then these are then finely reamed which is an art in itself, go to aggressively at this and you harden the bushes, too cautious and you end up with a ''tight'' bearing. The tolerances between the spindle and bushes on Grease Bearing Serial No 33687 are as new specification.

All the levers and controls are new and that they have been plated with Gold passivated zinc. 

The motor is totally striped down and new felt washers are fitted, bearings are checked and replaced if necessary. The motor is fully repainted before being reassembled and lubricated making it ready for the next 40 years!!
