Classic Garrard styling, with carefully engineered resonance control.

The Garrard 301 and 401 are timeless designs, and for many owners, a traditional wooden plinth is an essential part of their appeal. The SMD Acoustics Classic Plinth combines that familiar appearance with design principles developed through our longstanding two-tier Reference plinth range.

Many traditional plinths were essentially hollow wooden boxes. Although attractive, their panels and internal cavities could resonate, allowing mechanical vibration and airborne sound to feed back into the replay system. The Classic addresses these weaknesses through a combination of mass, isolation and internal acoustic damping.

Its substantial 20mm British slate top plate provides a stable mounting platform for the Garrard motor unit and tonearm. A Sorbothane decoupling system isolates this plate from the outer wooden plinth, helping to reduce the transmission of unwanted vibration. Inside, acoustic damping reduces the effective cavity size and helps control internal resonance.

The result is a plinth designed to retain the character and proportions of a classic Garrard installation while providing a more carefully controlled foundation for music replay.

The solid oak surround features traditional dovetail corner joints, combining strength with an attractive furniture-quality finish. Adjustable stainless steel feet allow accurate levelling, with rubber pads providing a protective interface with the supporting surface.

Each aluminium arm plate is manufactured to suit your chosen tonearm, and most arms from 9 to 12 inches can be accommodated. The Classic can be configured for either the Garrard 301 or 401, with the option to change between models by fitting the appropriate replacement top plate.

An IEC mains socket is included, and an optional dust cover is available to complete the installation.
